QWhat is wrong with my battery?
ATips for Extending Battery Life
  • When running on battery power, close or minimize any unused windows.
  • Turn off any devices not in use such as wireless cards or external storage devices.
  • Use your laptop’s built-in mouse (i.e. touch pad or track point). If you must use an external mouse consider a traditional mouse over an optical mouse.
    • Do not leave unnecessary media in drives; CD’s and floppy disks left in drives use power.
    • If a battery must be stored for extended periods of time it should be stored in a fully-charged state.
    • Use power saving features (these features may vary based on operating system and laptop model, but can be found under the Power Options of your computer’s Control Panel.)
    • Avoid graphic and audio-intensive applications.
    • New batteries should be fully charged and discharged (cycled) a few times.
    • To maximize battery life, calibrate your battery quarterly. Please consult your computer's user guide for instruction. Calibration can take several hours and may be best performed over night.

QNetwork problems with 6910p leased laptops or any other computer running Vista.
    A

An incompatibility between Windows Vista and the Apple Bonjour application causes the operating system to behave incorrectly when connected to a network. This includes, but is not limited to, not being able to load a webpage if you plug your network cable into your laptop after it has already booted. All 6910's that were deployed with Vista have the Bonjour program installed.

    What is bonjour?

Bonjour detects other devices on the network and is used by popular programs such as iTunes, Ruckus, and Adobe Creative Suite 3. In iTunes and Ruckus it is used to see other people's shared playlists.

What options do I have to fix this?

    • Make sure your ethernet (network) cable is plugged in before starting your computer, or-
    • If you already started your computer before plugging in the network cable, simply restart your computer, or-
    • Run the following application to stop the Bonjour service from starting up when you turn your computer on which will resolve the network problems.  Download

QWhy don't my speakers work when my Macbook is booted into Vista?
    A

When booted into Vista a number of Macbooks have no audio. It appears that this is primarily affecting some of the 2007 Macbooks which need an updated audio driver installed.

People reporting this problem also have stated that there is a red light coming from their audio jack, indicating that optical audio output has been enabled.

To resolve this problem, boot your Macbook into Windows Vista and then download and run the following: Sigmatel Driver Update
